I discovered that “painting” with the camera makes people natural in front of the lense as they don’t “fear” it. I use the word “fear” because in English you “shoot” a picture, in French you say “tirer une photo”. It’s a violent act, people react to the camera as if it was a weapon and cover or “close” their faces. That way I’m creating very revealing portraits in which the subject is totally unaware and unprepared and therefore very true.
No technical manipulations were done to the photographs.
